Have you ever abseiled the height of ten giraffes?
Following a highly successful abseil down Kilver Court Viaduct last year, SOS Africa will be hosting a similar ‘African themed’ event down the historic Cranmore Tower this summer on the 29th/30th September.
This is a unique opportunity for groups and individuals to do something amazing for charity whilst having great fun with family and friends at the same time. It is also an ideal team building exercise for local businesses!
To enter a team or individual into the event, contact SOS Africa by email: info@sosafrica.com, or by phone: 01749340426 with the following information:
- The African themed name of your team of six.
- Tell us your preferred abseil height. You can abseil 10 giraffes (148 feet) on 29th Sept or 6 giraffes (100 feet) on 30th Sept.
- Give your preferred abseil time – between 9am to 5.30pm each day.
- Send us a £10 entry fee per person (Cheques to ‘SOS Africa’, Kilver Court, Shepton Mallet, BA4 5NF).
Please carry out the above by Monday 24thst September 2012 – times will be allotted on a ‘first come first serve basis.’
SOS Africa will then send you a Fundraising Pack including:
- Paper sponsorship forms.
- Your online fundraising page address.
- SOS Africa information leaflets.
- Your confirmed abseil time.
In order to make the event successful, we ask that you aim to raise at least £50 in sponsorship per person. All participants who raise £100 will receive a free SOS Africa Abseil t-shirt!
Why not make it a family day-out? Feel free to bring friends and family along to the event to witness your daredevil deeds! The tower is set in wonderful surroundings, and it is the ideal venue for a family picnic. We also hope to have refreshments on sale. If your friends are not as adventurous as you, do not despair; there will also be time set aside for individuals to abseil.
For an added challenge why not come in fancy dress? It is a great opportunity to gain your business coverage in the local press or just get yourselves a bit more attention in the pub afterwards! There will be a prize for the best dressed group. A prize will also be awarded to the group that raises the most money for SOS Africa. There is pride at stake, as local pubs, businesses and friends compete to become the ultimate ‘African Abseilers’. So, whether you are a laree lion, a cheeky chimp, a cranky croc, a menacing meerkat or a prickly porcupine, you can be a hero for an underprivileged township child this summer!
After the last year’s abseil, Stacey Lloyd from Old Mill Accountants, Shepton Mallet sent us this message:
“The thought of an abseil was terrifying as I am petrified of heights, but I managed to put this aside, as I focused on knowing that I was helping a very good cause. For anyone considering fundraising money for SOS Africa, who may be thinking twice because it involves something they are afraid of, I would encourage them to remember that it is important to focus on the benefit that the fundraising would have on so many people. The sense of achievement after taking part in such a fundraising event cannot be beaten.”
