SOS Africa is delighted to announce a new collaboration with Girls and Boys Town Macassar. This new partnership will secure educational sponsorship for disadvantaged children with potential, currently in the care of the youth development centre.

Established in 1958, Girls and Boys Town Centres seek to restore the lives of vulnerable and neglected children. Their purpose is to restore psychologically vulnerable children to a world where they are fortified with self-belief, coping and safeguarding skills, strengths and the purpose needed to make a positive contribution to their own lives and the lives of others.
Since opening its very first Western Cape Education Centre in 2013, SOS Africa has expanded its scope of support to provide education and training to children and young adults from across the region. This exciting new development is part of the organisation’s long-term plans to offer life-changing educational opportunities to the most vulnerable children across the Western Cape.
Over the past 12 years SOS Africa has demonstrated the lasting impact which can be made by collaborative partnerships. Throughout this time, the Cape Town based organisation has partnered with many schools and other organisations across the region:
“By working together and pooling expertise, experience and resources, the impact of charitable initiatives can be so much greater. We are thrilled to be able to work alongside the Girls and Boys Town staff to be able to provide the best possible educational opportunities for the children in their care. No child can control the circumstances into which they are born, but every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.” Dr Matt Crowcombe (Funder/CEO, SOS Africa)
Wasting no time to make this impact, the first sponsored children from Girls and Boys Town Macassar have already been enrolled at SOS Africa partner school Mondeor Eco School and started on Monday. The beneficiaries now attend lessons with average class sizes of less than 20 children, taught by experienced and passionate teachers. Girls and Boys Town Macassar staff hope that these sponsored children will be the first of many:
“For us, education is one of the keys our youth can use to unlock their futures. This opportunity is a once-in-a-lifetime chance that the boys had been dreaming about even before it became a reality. We’ve seen first-hand how eager they are to learn, wishing for a school where they can test their educational limits and push themselves beyond previous boundaries.“
“Emotionally and mentally, these two boys have experienced a significant shift. This moment is a proud one not only for our youth but also for our organization. These boys are now ambassadors for Girls and Boys Town, proving that where we come from does not determine where we are heading.“
“At Girls and Boys Town, we take pride in our kids and will continue working to break the stigma of Care programs. With education as one of the keys, your assistance helps our kids shine. Thank you for partnering with GBTSA to help heal broken hearted youth.” Maureen Ben (Youth Development Manager, Girls and Boys Town)
